The German parliament approved a proposed reduction of the national aviation tax to levels from before the 2024 increase. The change will go into effect on July 1, 2026, and will see a 16% reduction in the levies across all three tiers. The new tax will be EUR13.03 euros (USD15.20), EUR33.01 (USD38.40), and EUR59.43 (USD69.20) per departing passenger, depending on the flight length. Airlines, particularly Ryanair, have long criticised the tax and blamed it for the slow recovery of air traffic in Germany after the COVID-19 pandemic.
