Western Global Airlines (KD, Fort Myers Southwest Florida) has resumed operations with its MD-11F fleet, ADS-B data shows.
N781SN (msn 48781) operated a test flight on May 21 between Fort Myers Southwest Florida and Columbus Rickenbacher, OH. It then flew from Columbus to Norfolk Chambers, VA and onwards to Rota US Naval Station on May 23, and from Rota to Sigonella and Djibouti the day after.
In total, Western Global Airlines has fourteen MD-11Fs in its fleet, the thirteen others currently remaining inactive. The company also operates two B747-400(BCF)s, one B747-400(BDSF), and one B747-400FSCD.
Earlier in May, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved the protocols set up by Boeing to address the safety issues on the MD-11 and MD-11F types, allowing them to return to service after having been grounded since November 2025, following a UPS Airlines crash at Louisville International.
Immediately after the clearance, FedEx began resuming use of its MD-11 freighters. It is the only other company in the world to operate the type, as UPS Airlines opted to retire its fleet of the model during the grounding period.
