Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev identified nonstop services to the United States and Japan as priorities for Air Astana (KC, Astana Nursultan Nazarbayev) during a meeting with the airline's chief executive, Ibrahim Canliel. In May, the airline said US flights would require government subsidies because of higher costs from avoiding Russian airspace.
