The High Court of Malaya has ordered online travel agency MOVE Travel Sdn Bhd, which operates as AirAsia MOVE, to stop using the trademarks of Cebu Pacific Air (5J, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) and its Cebgo (DG, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) subsidiary.
Cebu Pacific said in a July 7 press release that the ruling also restrains AirAsia MOVE, part of Capital A, from distributing, offering for sale, or selling Cebu Pacific flights under the "CEBU PACIFIC" and "CEBGO" trademarks without the airline's authorisation.
Cebu Pacific initiated the legal proceedings in June 2024, alleging that AirAsia MOVE had passed off its brands. The court ruled in favour of the airline, held AirAsia MOVE liable for passing off, and declared the two trademarks to be well-known.
The court ordered MOVE to pay MYR120,000 ringgit (USD29,500) in costs. Damages will be assessed in separate proceedings.
"Cebu Pacific has never authorised MOVE to use the 'CEBU PACIFIC' and 'CEBGO' trademarks or to distribute or sell its flight tickets through the platform," the airline said, adding that it continues to support authorised travel partners.
AirAsia MOVE previously faced regulatory scrutiny in the Philippines. In June 2025, Philippine authorities ordered the platform blocked after it displayed domestic fares that exceeded the country's fare ceiling on some routes. The OTA attributed the issue to temporary data synchronisation errors involving a third-party pricing provider.
