Vietravel Airlines (VU, Hue Phu Bai International) has announced its intention to purchase fifty Airbus aircraft, comprising twenty A220s and thirty A321s, with deliveries expected to begin in 2029.

The A321 order is expected to include A321neo and A321XLR variants to support the airline's medium- and long-term development strategy.

An Airbus spokesperson confirmed that the agreement, at this stage, constitutes a signed letter of intent (LOI). "We are pleased to have signed the commitments, and look forward to finalising the contracts," the spokesperson said.

According to a statement published by the airline and the Vietnamese government, the agreement was signed on September 10, 2026, at the Élysée Palace in Paris in the presence of Viet Nam's General Secretary and President To Lam and French President Emmanuel Macron during an official visit to France.

Vietravel Airlines said the simultaneous selection of the A220 and A321 reflects its long-term vision for network development. The A220 would have a strategic role in opening new direct routes to underserved markets, while the A321 family would support gradual expansion on higher-demand and longer international services to South Asia, Central Asia, and selected Middle Eastern markets.

"The plan to add 50 Airbus aircraft is the next step in Vietravel Airlines' transformation roadmap since joining the [privately owned conglomerate] T&T Group ecosystem at the end of 2024. From consolidating resources and gradually increasing the proportion of owned aircraft, starting with the first Airbus A321 in June 2025, Vietravel Airlines is moving into a long-term fleet planning phase, expanding its flight network and enhancing its proactive operational capabilities," the airline said.

The carrier currently operates domestic services and international routes to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Shenzhen, and plans to add further aircraft in the second half of 2026, targeting 80-90 daily flights. Vietravel Airlines currently operates a fleet of five aircraft, comprising one A320-200 and four A321-200s, according to ch-aviation data.
