airBaltic (BT, Riga) has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, court filings revealed on September 14, 2026. The company confirmed in a press release that all operations will continue as normal while the proceedings last.
The carrier announced its reorganisation after it delayed a bondholder vote on funding plans from September 11 to September 15. airBaltic said the vote was delayed "to allow bondholders additional time to review the draft resolution and submit their voting instructions in a timely manner."
The postponed vote concerned airBaltic’s emergency financing of EUR257 million euros (USD297 million), which would come with a 25% interest rate on newly issued bonds. The funding proposal was backed by London-based Polus Capital Management and Israel's Klirmark Capital.
This is a developing story and will be updated soon.
