BETA Technologies (Burlington, VT) has begun flight testing in North Carolina with the all-electric ALIA conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) aircraft to evaluate potential medical and regional transport applications. Since September 17, the manufacturer has conducted multiple sectors between Sanford, Greenville, NC, and Manteo, covering more than 1,300 nautical miles. The campaign is being conducted in partnership with air medical services provider Metro Aviation and uses BETA's charging site at Sanford.

The testing is being carried out under the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) eVTOL Integration Pilot Programme (eIPP). Earlier in September, BETA and Metro Aviation demonstrated the ALIA with Washington County Emergency Medical Services at Brenham Municipal Airport under the same eIPP initiative.
