Sun PhuQuoc Airways (9G, Hanoi Noi Bai International) has received approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam to operate A330 aircraft and expand its operating network to Europe, parent Sun Group said on September 30, 2026.

The carrier applied for the approval on April 16. The certification process covered flight operations, training, maintenance, dispatch, ground handling, emergency evacuation exercises, and demonstration flights.

The airline's first A330-200, VN-A969 (msn 1415), will enter commercial service on October 3 between Hanoi Noi Bai International and Ho Chi Minh City. According to ch-aviation schedules data, the type is scheduled on multiple Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City flights during October and daily between Hanoi and Phu Quoc from October 25 until at least March 28, 2027.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways plans to deploy the A330-200 internationally from November 13, initially between Phu Quoc and Moscow Sheremetyevo. Sun Group said the carrier is also studying services to Prague Václav Havel, Almaty International, and Astana Nursultan Nazarbayev, while A330 operations to Japan are planned from January 2027 and to Australia from May 2027.

The approval follows the delivery of VN-A969 on September 22, previously reported by ch-aviation. The 13.4-year-old aircraft is the first of eight A330s Sun PhuQuoc Airways plans to add through April 2027. The airline expects to receive the first four of these by year-end 2026, which includes the now-delivered VN-A969.

According to ch-aviation data, Sun PhuQuoc Airways operates a fleet of 21 aircraft, comprising four A320-200Ns, two A321-200s, twelve A321-200NX, two A321-200NX(LR)s, and one A330-200, with twenty B787-9s on order.
