The government of Andorra has announced that it has awarded Chalair Aviation (CE, Caen) a three-year public service obligation (PSO) contract for international operations out of La Seu D’Urgell. From January 1, 2027, Chalair will begin 2-3x weekly routes to Madrid Barajas, Palma de Mallorca, and Paris Orly using a permanently-stationed ATR42-500, the first aircraft ever to be based at the Pyrenean airport.
Nice (2x weekly), Lyon St. Exupéry (1x weekly), and Nantes (2x weekly) will be added throughout 2027, which may see the operation of an ATR72-500 reserved for high-demand periods. The contract includes a EUR5 million euro (USD5.6 million) maximum annual contribution, totalling EUR15 million (USD16.9 million) for the 2027-2030 period. Chalair replaces Air Nostrum, which has served Andorra's PSO routes to Madrid and Palma since 2022.
