Fly Erbil (FBL, Erbil) received its air operator's certificate (AOC) from the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) in Baghdad on October 20, 2026, formally recognising the former virtual carrier as an Iraqi airline and paving the way for it to expand its flight network, the company announced in a statement.

It described the AOC as supporting air-transport development in the Kurdistan region and across Iraq, and said it intended to expand to additional Iraqi cities plus new regional and international destinations.

The airline said the certification followed "years of work" by management and staff and reflected compliance with aviation safety, security, and regulatory standards.

According to ch-aviation data, Fly Erbil operates one company-owned A320-200, YI-EBL (msn 3460), with another A320-200, msn 3536, stored, awaiting delivery.

The 18.6-year-old YI-EBL seats 180 passengers in a single-class economy cabin. It was delivered new to Virgin America in 2008 and afterwards flew with Alaska Airlines, now-defunct Canada Jetlines, and Marathon Airlines, before joining Fly Erbil in September 2026, followed by its delivery on October 9, 2026. The aircraft is to be deployed on domestic and Middle East flights in the near future.

According to an October schedule posted on social media, Fly Erbil plans to operate flights from Erbil to Copenhagen Kastrup, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Hannover, Frankfurt International, Cologne/Bonn, Munich, Berlin Brandenburg, Munich, London, and Istanbul Airport.

As a virtual carrier, Fly Erbil chartered flights under the AOC of Iraqi carrier UR Airlines (UD, Baghdad), whose fleet comprises one B737-300, one B737-400, and two A320-200s wet leased from BH Air - Balkan Holidays Air.
