Luxair (LG, Luxembourg) will wet lease two A320-200s from DAT (Denmark) (DX, Kolding) during January and February 2027 with the tail numbers still to be confirmed, both parties have confirmed to ch-aviation.
"We're thrilled to be working with Luxair again, after leasing an aircraft to them also this summer season," DAT CEO Robert Rungholm said.
A Luxair spokesperson confirmed that Luxair will be making use of two A320s from DAT under a wet-lease agreement for the 2026/27 winter season. "This is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the resilience and continuity of our operations," the airline explained.
Luxair CEO Gilles Feith earlier said the A320 wet lease would mitigate operational restrictions affecting its E195-E2 fleet in adverse weather conditions, the Luxembourg Times reported.
The precautionary measure follows restrictions affecting the Pratt & Whitney engines powering the E195-E2, which prevent the aircraft from taking off in freezing fog when visibility falls below 110 metres and temperatures are 3°C or lower, Feith said in an interview with aviation journalist Dominik Sipinski.
ch-aviation has contacted Luxair for comment.
According to ADS-B data, DAT operates four A320-200s via subsidiary DAT (Lithuania), of which it wet leases one to Carpatair Flight Service, one to Air Corsica, and one to Marabu, while one is operated in-house.
Luxair currently operates four E195-E2s among a total fleet size of 25, with two more of the type plus three E190-E2s scheduled for delivery, according to ch-aviation data.
Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (the Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil - ANAC) issued an airworthiness directive on January 12, 2026, regarding risks associated with ground operations in freezing fog. The directive applies to the E190-E2 and E195-E2 models.
Responding to media inquiries in January, Luxair reaffirmed its confidence in Embraer and its aircraft. "The choice of this aircraft is based on a long-term strategic analysis and is not called into question by these temporary procedures," the company said in a statement at the time.
