The Samoan government is again assessing interest among the country's diaspora in investing in the proposed relaunch of jet operations by Samoa Airways (OL, Apia Faleolo), according to an official statement issued on November 2, 2026.

The survey is intended to gauge interest in a possible retail investment in Polynesian Limited, trading as Samoa Airways, to finance jet services connecting Samoa with Australia and New Zealand.

The government stressed that the survey is solely for market research purposes and does not constitute an investment offer. No financial products are currently being offered under the proposal, and responses are voluntary and non-binding. The deadline for submissions is December 24, 2026.

As previously reported by ch-aviation, the government launched a separate initiative in February 2026, authorising the Unit Trust of Samoa (UTOS) to register Samoan nationals interested in acquiring shares in Samoa Airways. The minimum contribution was set at WST500 tala (USD180), with funds initially invested through UTOS pending the eventual issuance of airline shares.

The government previously deferred plans to acquire two jets in 2026, estimating that preparations could take one to two years and potentially push the resumption of jet operations into 2027 or 2028. In June, it reaffirmed its commitment to the relaunch, describing fundraising through UTOS as only one component of a broader financing strategy.

Samoa Airways operates three DHC-6-300s, ch-aviation data shows. It previously operated narrowbodies, specifically B737-300s between 1994 and 2001, and B737-800s between 2001 and 2006, before briefly reintroducing the latter type between 2021 and 2022.
