Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong International) has been fined USD1.4million (CAD1.5million) by a Canadian court after after the airline admitted taking part in an air cargo price-fixing cartel, Canada’s Competition Bureau said. Cathay Pacific's guilty plea related to navigation surcharges it imposed on international air cargo shipments to and from Canada between April 1999 and August 2003. The CCB's investigation has thus far resulted in eight criminal convictions and fines of over CAD24million with Air France-KLM, Cargolux (CV, Luxembourg), British Airways (BA, London Heathrow), Martinair (Netherlands) (MP, Amsterdam Schiphol), Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) and Korean Air (KE, Seoul Incheon) all having plead guilty. Cathay Pacific was earlier this year fined USD3.84million (NZD4.56million) to settle another air cargo price-fixing case with the New Zealand Commerce Commission.
