Finnair (AY, Helsinki Vantaa) has dismissed a report in Danish Business daily, Borsen, which claimed its new chief executive, Pekka Vauramo, saw only advantages to a possible merger with SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK, Copenhagen Kastrup). In a statement, a Finnair spokeswoman said his comments had been taken out of context and misinterpreted," adding that "the story clearly left out the cons that were stated." The report had claimed the carrier's largest shareholder, the Finnish state, "was clearly thinking along the lines (of a merger)". Neither Finnair nor SAS confirmed any plans for a potential partnership though Finnair senior management has called on Helsinki to reduce its controlling stake in the airline and allow it to seek more "alliance and mergers and acquisition deals."
