TonléSap Airlines (Phnom Penh) has officially rebranded to Wat Phnom Airlines (Phnom Penh), Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation has announced. The carrier, grounded now for about two months following financial problems, is now in the process of applying for a new Air Operator Certificate though no exact relaunch date has been disclosed. Cambodian reports further claim that the airline has also retained its board of directors. While the rebranding exercise is an attempt at starting afresh for the airline, it is understood that various debts owed by TonléSap Airlines to numerous creditors, particularly in Taiwan, may hamper its expansion plans. TonléSap had operated a principle route network serving Siem Reap from Taiwan, Korea and China with additional flying between Cambodia and Vietnam and Thailand.
