El Al Israel Airlines (LY, Tel Aviv Ben Gurion) took delivery of its first B737-900(ER), 4X-EHA (msn 41552) on October. The aircraft is configured with 16 business class seats and 156 seats in economy class. El Al will be using the 737-900(ER)s to serve their routes to Europe starting with Barcelona El Prat, London Heathrow, Milan Malpensa, Moscow Domodedovo, Paris CDG and Rome Fiumicino this year. To date the airline has five more 737-900(ER)s on order that will complement its two B737-700s and 15 B737-800s in its narrowbody fleet. Meanwhile, investment fund FIMI has decided against investing up to 75 million USD into the Israeli national carrier after El Al failed to reach an agreement with the carrier's unions. FIMI had planned to acquire a 47% stake in the carrier but always made any deal contingent on a new labor contract.
