Urumqi Air (UQ, Urumqi) has been given the go-ahead to launch by the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) Xinjiang Regional Administration. Urumqi Airlines is a joint venture between the HNA Group (70% of the shareholding) and Urumqi Urban Construction Investment Co. (30%) and is licensed for domestic (including Hong Kong International, Macau International and Taiwan) and international passenger & cargo operations. Flights are expected to launch using B737 aircraft. According to WCARN, HNA will provide initial training and staff for the start-up in the form of pilots, mechanics, flight dispatchers and cabin crew. Approval for the airline's launch is expected shortly after November 11 when the deadline for the submission of objections expires.
