Aegean Airlines (A3, Athens) says its recent USD99milllion acquisition of Olympic Air (OA, Athens) will, over the coming 6 to 14 months, result in an "enhanced fleet and an immediate expansion of the network, to the enhancement of the connectivity in Greece and abroad, as well as to cost savings from the consolidation of administrative services, with benefits saving up to EUR35million annually.” Fifteen new destinations are to be launched from Athens in 2014 including Birmingham, GB, Marseilles, Nantes, Zurich, Hamburg, Hannover, Nuremberg, Copenhagen Kastrup, Catania, Abu Dhabi International, Beirut and Paphos. A new base will also be established at Chania in line with the airline's plan to further boost connectivity to Greece's more remote communities.
