Tatarstan Air (Kazan International) has withdrawn its only remaining B737 jet, a B737-400, from operational use following the crash of its sole B737-500, VQ-BBN (msn 24785), at Kazan International on November 17 which claimed the lives of all 44 passengers and 6 crew on board. In its official statement, Tatarstan Air said the move was a precaution and would allow it to determine the causes of the accident. VQ-BBN was inbound from Moscow Domodedovo when it crashed on touchdown on Kazan's runway 29 and burst into flames at 19h25L. Tatarstan's Transport Prosecution Office has opened a criminal investigation into the accident. The airline continues to operate six A319-100s and two Tu-154s.
