Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) MRO division, Lufthansa Technik AG, is to close its jet engine overhaul facility at Dublin International, Lufthansa Technik Airmotive Ireland (LTAI), following the collapse of talks with US-based aviation turnaround specialists, Cloud Investment Partners. On December 20, LTAI served Notices of Termination of Employment to about 400 staff at the plant. The firm says negotiations with three trade unions and employee representatives failed to reach any agreement on severance terms. In November, Lufthansa Technik announced an extensive review of operations at LTAI, in light of the facility's dwindling revenues and shrinking international market share. Established by Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin International) in 1980 as Airmotive Ireland, Lufthansa Technik acquired a 60% shareholding in 1997, before taking full ownership in 1999. LTAI specializes in the repair and overhaul of CFM56-3, CFM56-7, V2500 and JT9 engine types.
