Urumqi Air (UQ, Urumqi) is set to launch its maiden operations next month its parent, the HNA Group, has disclosed. The carrier is a 70/30 venture between Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou) and the Urumqi Urban Construction Investment Co. with start-up capital amounting to CNY3billion (USD483million).
The airline also recently secured its Air Operators Certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and will likely operate a fleet of B737s initially.
The start-up is one of several joint-ventures HNA has established with local firms which, among others, includes Capital Airlines (China) (JD, Beijing Daxing International), West Air (China) (PN, Chongqing), Lucky Air (China) (8L, Dali), Fuzhou Airlines (FU, Fuzhou), Guilin Airlines (Guilin), and Tianjin Airlines (GS, Tianjin).
