Amaszonas (AZN, La Paz El Alto) is in the process of acquiring the Air Operators Certificate (AOC) of its subsidiary BQB Líneas Aéreas (Punta del Este) amid plans to begin flights out of Uruguay in January next year. The Bolivians acquired the struggling airline in April this year.
The Bolivian carrier's regional manager, Carlos Pera, told local media last week that securing BQB's AOC would allow Amaszonas to be designated a Uruguayan national carrier thus granting it traffic rights. Currently, Amaszonas is undergoing certification with the Uruguayan civil aviation authority (Dirección Nacional de Aviación Civil e Infraestructura Aeronáutica - DINACIA). BQB also holds a Chilean Air Operators Certificate (AOC) allowing it to operate both domestic and international, scheduled and charter commercial passenger flights.
Once completed, Amaszonas plans to re-equip Amaszonas BQB (Punta del Este) with three aircraft to operate flights to regional destinations such as Porto Alegre International, São Paulo Guarulhos, and Rio de Janeiro International in Brazil; Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery, Rosario Islas Malvinas, and Córdoba International in Argentina, and Santiago de Chile. Flights between Montevideo and Buenos Aires have already been set for April 2016.
