Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) has followed through with threats to cancel acceptance of its first A320neos CEO Akbar al Baker has announced.
Reuters reports the Qataris have refused to take delivery of A7-AJB (cn 6772) with threats to walk away from four more should Pratt & Whitney fail to resolve problems with its PW1100G powerplants.
“We will walk away from subsequent aircraft if the matter is not resolved,” Al Baker told reporters in Dublin for the International Air Transport Association (IATA) annual meet.
Given ongoing delays in the delivery of the upgraded A320 jets, al Baker said Qatar Airways would open talks with P&W rival CFM over the planned use of its Leap 1A engines to power the rest of its A320neo fleet.
In response, the US engine manufacturer has hit back at al Baker's claims stating the PW1100G had been "fully certified", and met performance and contract specifications.
"We have resolved the very few initial teething items airlines have experienced," Pratt said in a statement.
Qatar Airways has eighty A320neo on order from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac).
