Mihin Lanka (Colombo International) has concluded operations with its scheduled services having ended on Saturday, October 29.
As previously reported, although the LCC is being wound up, its fleet of one A319-100 (leased from Air Lease Corporation), one A320-200 (leased from AerCap), and two A321-200s (leased from AerCap and ALC) have now been transferred to sister carrier SriLankan Airlines (UL, Colombo International) where two of the airraft are already in service. Mihin Lanka's route authorities have also been transferred to SriLankan Airlines.
The Sri Lankan government announced the closure of Mihin Lanka in July this year as part of a raft of measures aimed at reducing public debt.
Founded in 2006 during the Mahinda Rajapaksa administration, Mihin Lanka was aimed at the Middle Eastern and Indian markets. However, despite extensive government support, it failed to turn a profit leading the current Maithripala Sirisena regime to label it an unnecessary vanity project.
