Adria Airways (Ljubljana) has abandoned plans to establish a base at Bern following the resumption of services by SkyWork Airlines (Bern).
Following SkyWork's suspension of operations this past weekend, and with the possibility that the suspension may turn into a more permanent affair, the Slovenian carrier announced plans to deploy two Saab 2000s to the Swiss capital gateway from November 6 onwards. The turboprops, sourced from Adria's Darwin Airline (Lugano) unit, were to have been used to cover SkyWork's services to Hamburg, Berlin Tegel, Vienna, and Munich.
However, with SkyWork having secured its permanent Air Operator's Licence (AOL) from the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Aviation (FOCA) in time to resume flights on Wednesday, November 1, Adria Airways has now formally cancelled its Berne plans.
"Due to SkyWork Airlines AG resuming flight operations from Berne, Adria Airways will not be conducting any flights from Berne," Arno Schuster, CEO of Adria Airways, said in a statement. "Our ability to act swiftly was critical in ensuring continuity of market certainty. Therefore, we are also pleased that SkyWork Airlines has managed to regain its operating license so quickly. We wish you continued success!"
