Star Airways (Albania) (Tirana) had already taken delivery of an ex-Mexicana (MX/Mexico City) A320-200 but has not been able to get an air operator certificate from the Albanian civil aviation authority yet as it has stopped issuing AOCs in general as part of a programme aimed at improving its safety oversight. Instead, it has now started operations using a MD-82 operated by ItAli Airlines (FS/Pescara) on June 7: Tirana-Bologna Marconi: 2x weekly service Tirana-Cuneo: 2x weekly service Tirana-Genoa: 2x weekly service Tirana-Milan Malpensa: 4x weekly service Tirana-Milan Orio al Serio: 3x weekly service Tirana-Pisa: 3x weekly service Tirana-Rome Ciampino: 3x weekly service Tirana-Turin: 2x weekly service (to be terminated on September 1) Tirana-Venice Marco Polo: 3x weekly service Tirana-Venice Treviso: 2x weekly service Tirana-Verona: 2x weekly service It had temporarily also operated flights from Tirana to Rimini but has given up the route on July 25. Star has also announced plans to add routes to Antalya, Dusseldorf, Istanbul and Thessaloniki but it is unclear how it would be able to operate these routes without an Albanian certificate as its partner ItAli does not have traffic rights on these routes.
