Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) has announced plans for a new order for additional 70 B737-800s while it has cancelled eight previous orders and secured 70 more options at the same time. Ryanair has also signed a cooperation agreement with Chinese manufacturer COMAC to assist in the design of a new narrowbody design. It has again launched a large amount of new routes again with its B737-800s while obviously also pulling out of routes and bases at the same time as usual. Serio and Trapani, from Bristol to Pau and Rimini, from Dublin to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, from Dusseldorf Weeze to Berlin Schönefeld, Birmingham, Gdansk, Gothenburg City, Kaunas, Kerry, Krakow, Oslo to Granada, Lleida and London Gatwick, from Pisa to Memmingen and from Porto to London Gatwick. It will also terminate its routes from Glasgow Prestwick to Girona and London Stansted this winter season. Ryanair had already closed its base at Belfast City on October 31, 2010 after the runway extension plans at the airport had again been postponed. It had operated services from there to Bristol, East Midlands, Glasgow Prestwick, Liverpool and London Stansted. Its Marseilles base has been closed on January 11 after a court order forcing Ryanair crews to pay tax and social insurance in France, it has then again resumed some routes from Marseilles in spring using aircraft and crew based at other locations in Europe, it currently operates the following routes out of Marseilles: Marseilles-Agadir: 2x weekly service has resumed on April 16 Marseilles-Brest: daily service has resumed on April 14 Marseilles-Brussels Charleroi: 4x weekly service Marseilles-Cagliari: 2x weekly service has resumed on March 29 Marseilles-Dublin: 2x weekly service has resumed on June 1 Marseilles-Dusseldorf Weeze: 2x weekly service Marseilles-Edinburgh: 2x weekly service has resumed on March 29 Marseilles-Eindhoven: 4x weekly service has resumed on April 14 Marseilles-Fez: 5x weekly service Marseilles-Gothenburg City: 2x weekly service has resumed on April 14 Marseilles-Lille: 6x weekly service has resumed on April 14 Marseilles-London Stansted: daily service Marseilles-Madrid: daily service Marseilles-Malaga: 4x weekly service has resumed on March 1 Marseilles-Malta: 2x weekly service Marseilles-Marrakech: 5x weekly service has resumed on April 14 Marseilles-Nador: 2x weekly service has resumed on April 16 Marseilles-Nantes: daily service has resumed on April 14 Marseilles-Palermo: 2x weekly service has resumed on April 15 Marseilles-Porto: 4x weekly service Marseilles-Seville: 3x weekly service Marseilles-Stockholm Skavsta: 2x weekly service has resumed on March 29 Marseilles-Tangiers: 2x weekly service has resumed on April 17 Marseilles-Tours: 2x weekly service has resumed on May 16 Marseilles-Valencia: 3x weekly service Ryanair has not resumed its routes from Marseilles to Biarritz, Faro, Frankfurt Hahn, Oslo Torp, Paris Beauvais, Poitiers, Rome Ciampino, Tenerife Sur and Venice Treviso following the base closure. It has also not launched its previously announced Rome Ciampino-Tenerife Sur route. In an argument with Alicante airport over the forced usage of jet bridges, Ryanair has announced that it would cut a wide range of routes from the base there for the winter season including services to Aarhus, Bournemouth, Bratislava, Brno, Cochstedt, Cork, Doncaster/Sheffield, Fez, Gdansk, Haugesund, Humberside, Kaunas, Kerry, Knock, Londonderry, Maastricht, Marrakech, Memmingen, Oslo Torp, Palma de Mallorca, Paris Beauvais, Pisa, Poznan, Santander, Stockholm Vasteras, Tampere, Valladolid, Växjö, Venice Treviso, Wroclaw and Zaragoza from October 30. Ryanair will also close its base in Reus on October 25 and terminate its services from there to Birmingham, Bristol, Brussels Charleroi, Cork, Dublin, Dusseldorf Weeze, East Midlands, Eindhoven, Frankfurt Hahn, Glasgow Prestwick, Knock, Krakow, Liverpool, London Luton, London Stansted, Maastricht, Marrakech, Memmingen, Milan Orio al Serio, Nador, Palermo, Palma de Mallorca, Paris Beauvais, Pisa, Santander, Santiago de Compostela, Seville and Venice Treviso. It is expected that some of these routes will continue operating from other bases this winter already or resumed next summer season given Ryanair has separately announced Reus as one of its destinations for its new Manchester base. It will also give up its Dublin-Bologna Marconi route on September 5 and temporarily suspend its routes from Edinburgh to Berlin Schönefeld, Billund, Bologna Marconi, Frankfurt Hahn, Malta, Marrakech, Memmingen, Palma de Mallorca, Tallinn and Tampere and from London Stansted to Hamburg Lübeck for the winter season starting on October 30. Venice Treviso airport is closed between June 1 and September 30 this summer season for runway works and all Ryanair flights are operating from/to Venice Marco Polo in the meantime. Ryanair had also briefly been forced to divert flights from its Trapani base to Palermo during the first couple of weeks of the NATO airstrikes against Libya when the airport that also is an Italian military base had been closed for civilian use. Air One (AP/Milan Malpensa) and Meridiana fly (IG/Olbia) had also been affected.
