Angara Airlines (Irkutsk International) has lost an An-24 turboprop in a fatal crash on July 11 when the aircraft ditched in river Ob. This accident as well as the crash of a Rusair (CGI/Moscow Sheremetyevo) Tu-134 near Petrozavodsk in June have led to the Russian government making statements that all An-24s and Tu-134s could be banned from all or at least scheduled flights from 2012 which would have a major impact on many regional carriers throughout the country still heavily relying on the two aircraft types.
