Spanair (Barcelona El Prat) and its former parent SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK/Copenhagen Kastrup) have cancelled their codeshare agreement as of December 1, 2011 and are no longer cooperating although both obviously are Star Alliance members. Despite a wide range of protests from other carriers, Spanair has again received additional 25 million Euros from two of its public shareholders, the government of Catalonia and the city of Barcelona, to cover its losses. Qatar Airways (QR/Doha) is reportedly very interested in taking a 49% stake in the carrier. Spanair has terminated its Barcelona-Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen and Madrid-Dubrovnik routes.
