Spanair (Barcelona El Prat) has filed for bankruptcy and suspended all operations at midnight on January 27. The Star Alliance carrier had operated a fleet of 19 A320-200s, 5 A321-200s, a MD-82, two MD-83s and a MD-87. Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) had been interested in investing in the financially troubled carrier backed by local investors and the local governments of Barcelona and the Catalonia region but has abandoned talks shortly before Spanair decided to give up.
