Cargojet Airways (W8, Hamilton, ON) has ordered two B777-200(LR)(MF) converted freighters from Mammoth Freighters, with options for a further two B777-200(LR)(MF)s and two B777-300(ER)(MF)s.

The first aircraft to enter the conversion line will be N705DN (msn 29742), a 12.7-year-old B777-200(LR) last operated by Delta Air Lines through March 2020. After its retirement, it was acquired together with nine other ex-Delta B777-200(LR)s by Fortress Investment Group, Mammoth Freighters' parent. It is currently parked at Moses Lake airport.

Mammoth Freighters said the jet would undergo conversion in mid-2022 and, following its certification, would be delivered to Cargojet in the second half of 2023. The company did not disclose the identity of the second B777-200(LR). The B777-200(LR)(MF) will be the world's first conversion of the -200(LR) variant. The production B777-200F variant is based on the non-LR B777-200 variant.

Previously, Mammoth Freighters said that its conversion of the B777-300(ER) would also enter into service in 2023. It has yet to acquire any feed stock of this variant.

The ch-aviation fleets module shows Cargojet Airways currently operates nine B757-200(PCF)s, three B767-200(ERBDSF)s, four B767-300ER(BCF)s, and twelve B767-300ER(BDSF)s. Earlier this year, the carrier announced plans to add two B777-300(ER)(SF)s, converted by Israel Aerospace Industries, with options for two more. The aircraft are also due to deliver in 2023.
