EgyptAir to add first narrowbody freighter, a B737-800
19.05.2022 - 11:48 UTCEgyptAir (MS, Cairo Int'l) has ordered a single B737-800(SF) converted freighter from Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) as it seeks to supplement its existing widebody freighter fleet with a maiden narrowbody.
The carrier will convert its own B737-800, SU-GCP (msn 35560), a 14.6-year-old jet that was retired at the end of March 2022 and is currently in storage at Cairo Int'l. AEI said work will commence in October 2022 and will be performed at Miami Int'l airport. It did not indicate any expected redelivery date.
"This order is part of EgyptAir's cargo and passenger fleet modernisation plan. We will continue to increase the size of our fleet and open new freighter markets in the coming years to meet the growing needs of the local market in terms of exporting goods abroad, especially crops," Chairman and CEO of EgyptAir Holding Amr Abu El-Enein said.
The ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows that EgyptAir Cargo (MSX, Cairo Int'l) currently operates three A330-200(P2F)s while EgyptAir itself operates twenty-nine B737-800s, of...
Air Cairo enters Israel with Sharm el-Sheikh flights
05.05.2022 - 04:38 UTCAir Cairo (SM, Cairo Int'l) has become the second Egyptian airline to fly to Israel but the first to operate directly from Sharm el Sheikh to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion under an agreement struck between the Egyptian and Israeli governments earlier this year.
The leisure-focused airline, which is 60%-owned by flag carrier EgyptAir, inaugurated the 3x weekly route on May 3 and will use A320-200s.
Air Cairo joins three Israeli carriers - Arkia Israeli Airlines, Israir, and El Al Israel Airlines (under the Sun d'Or International Airlines leisure brand) - which each offer 3x weekly services to Sharm el Sheikh. The number of flights is expected to increase during the summer season as each of the Israeli airlines has been authorised to fly up to 5x weekly.
Last year, EgyptAir began operating to Tel Aviv under its main brand, rather than through a special purpose subsidiary Air Sinai (ASD, Cairo Int'l). The flag carrier only flies to Israel on a scheduled basis from...
