Scoot (TR, Singapore Changi) has signed a letter of intent with Azorra Aviation to lease nine E190-E2s with deliveries to commence in 2024. It will be the first time a Singapore Airlines Group (SIA) entity has operated the aircraft type and Scoot will become the only Singapore-based airline to use Embraers on scheduled passenger ops.
In a February 17 statement, Scoot said the acquisition was to support its network growth strategy. "The nine new Embraer E190-E2 aircraft will be progressively introduced by the end of 2025, with the first aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2024," the statement read. "The order signals Scoot’s confidence in the growing demand for air travel in Asia and commitment to bolster the SIA Group’s network."
The low-cost SIA Group subsidiary primarily operates around Asia but also flies as far afield as Australia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Germany. According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Scoot operates a fleet of twenty-four A320-200s, six A320-200Ns, nine A321-200NX, ten B787-8s, and ten B787-9s. Late last year, ch-aviation reported that Embraer was in talks with SIA Group regarding the potential purchase of up to 50 aircraft (including options) for Scoot. The Embraer jets appeal to Scoot because it would allow the airline to target scores of smaller cities around Southeast Asia that cannot profitably support operations using larger gauge Boeing or Airbus equipment.
Only one other operator in Singapore currently flies Embraers. Business and private charter airline ACAM - Asian Corporate Aviation Management has two Legacy 600s and one Legacy 650 which operate out of their Singapore Seletar base.
