IndiGo Airlines (6E, Delhi International) has placed a new order for 500 A320neo Family jets, breaking the record for the world's largest single ever commitment in terms of the number of aircraft.

"It is difficult to overstate the significance of IndiGo's new historic order for 500 Airbus A320 Family aircraft. An order book now of almost 1,000 aircraft well into the next decade, enables IndiGo to fulfil its mission to continue to boost economic growth, social cohesion and mobility in India. At IndiGo, we take pride in being India's preferred airline for connectivity in and with India; and by doing so, being one of the leading airlines in the world," Chief Executive Pieter Elbers said during the 2023 Paris Air Show.

The deliveries of the newly ordered batch of aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2030 and continue through 2035.

IndiGo has yet to decide on the new order's exact split between variants while engine selection will be announced at a later point, too. Elbers added that an additional long-haul aircraft order could also be placed later during the Paris Air Show.

The Indian LCC is already the world's largest operator of the A320neo Family aircraft with 165 A320-200Ns and eighty-five A321-200NX in its fleet. The ch-aviation fleets module shows, excluding this new order, Indigo has a further 174 A320-200Ns, 236 A321-200NX, and sixty-nine A321-200NY(XLR)s due from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac).

IndiGo's fleet also comprises twenty-one A320-200s, thirty-nine ATR72-600s, and two A321-200(P2F)s.
