Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong International) has signed a purchase agreement with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for twenty-one B777-9X aircraft. The deal is valued at HKD58billion (USD7.5 billion) at list prices though the carrier is understood to have secured "significant price concessions" from the US manufacturer. The twinjets will be equipped with GE Aviation GE9X motors with deliveries set to take place between 2021 and 2024. Cathay Pacific says the new B777s will be deployed primarily on its North American and European flights. At present time, Cathay Pacific is an extensive operator of the B777 family with five B777-200s, twelve B777-300s and thirty-seven B777-300(ER)s.
