PSA Airlines (OH, Dayton James M. Cox) resumed operations on January 29, 2021, following a sudden grounding of "most" of its 130 CRJ regional jets the day before to allow for urgent nose landing-gear inspections.
"All aircraft inspections are complete and all aircraft are in place for today’s operation. We expect minimal disruption to passengers today with a small number of planned cancellations and delays," the airline said in a statement to ch-aviation.
The day before, PSA said in an enigmatic tweet that most of its aircraft "have temporarily been removed from service to complete a standard inspection", without disclosing the specific reasons. However, in an internal memo obtained by CNN, the airline admitted that the grounding was for "an unknown period" and was likely to have a "significant impact" on its operations.
The FAA clarified that the temporary grounding was a result of PSA Airlines' voluntary disclosure.
The airline is a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) and operates exclusively for its parent under the American Eagle brand...

American Airlines Group has secured at least USD3.09 billion from the US Treasury as part of the government’s Payroll Support Programme Extension Agreement (PSP2) to preserve jobs in the airline sector.
A first instalment of USD1.54 billion of the additional PSP2 payment was dispersed on January 15, 2021, to American Airlines and its subsidiaries Envoy Air, Piedmont Airlines, and PSA Airlines.
The pay-out was part of a USD6.1 billion first PSP2 payment by the Treasury to a number of benefiting airlines. In total, the Treasury has approved another USD12 billion in payroll support for passenger air carriers to support airline industry workers. This follows after the government passed a new relief bill at the end of December 2020 releasing additional funds to help companies pay salaries following the air traffic collapse caused by the pandemic.
To protect taxpayers, American Airlines, like other benefiting carriers, have agreed to issue warrants to the US Treasury to acquire shares in the airline at an exercise price of USD15.66 per share, as required under Section 408...

Mesa Airlines (YV, Phoenix Sky Harbor) has announced it has renewed its Capacity Purchase Agreement (CPA) with American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) and will continue to operate CRJ900s on its behalf for at least another five years.
The new contract, which replaces a previous one from 2001 which itself was due to expire in stages through 2022, will enter into effect on January 1, 2021, for a five-year period.
Under the terms of the renewed CPA, Mesa Airlines will operate forty CRJ900s under the American Eagle brand. American Airlines will have the option to withdraw up to 10 aircraft during calendar year 2021 (although in the first half of the year, only if it also reduces its mainline fleet), five aircraft during each of calendar years 2022 and 2023, and during the period from January 1, 2024, to July 31, 2024, American can remove the first 20 aircraft to the extent not otherwise removed in 2021-2023. The last 20 aircraft can be withdrawn after July 31, 2024.
The current CPA between...

Following the failure of the US lawmakers to extend the Payroll Support Program (PSP) beyond the September 30, 2020, deadline, multiple carriers launched mass furloughs affecting thousands of workers.
The largest cuts were effected by American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) and United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare), which sent furlough notices to around 19,000 and 13,000 workers, respectively. The number of furloughs for American Airlines includes staff of its subsidiaries Envoy Air (MQ, Dallas/Fort Worth), Piedmont Airlines (PT, Salisbury), and PSA Airlines (OH, Dayton James M. Cox). Alaska Airlines (AS, Seattle Tacoma Int'l), which previously warned of up to 3,000 furloughs, so far sent notices to around 450 staff members.
In a message to staff reported by public broadcaster NPR, American Airlines Chief Executive Doug Parker said that talks about the extension of the PSP were ongoing, signalling a potential reversal of the furloughs.
"I spoke late today with the Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin. He informed me that the White House and Speaker Nancy...
