Qatar Airways details World Cup network changes
31.10.2022 - 03:32 UTCQatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) has detailed the operational adjustments it will make to its network in order to cope with a surge in demand for travel to and from Qatar for the duration of the 2022 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament, due to run between November 20 and December 18.
“Due to unprecedented demand and a greater focus on bringing football fans to the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East, Qatar Airways is temporarily adapting its operations to a more point-to-point model," a spokesman told ch-aviation. "Throughout the course of the tournament, we will be reducing frequencies and provisionally scaling back flights to several destinations across our network.”
Destinations that will see their current frequencies cut for the duration of the tournament or until otherwise stated:
- Addis Ababa International, Ethiopia, reduced from 3x to 2x weekly;
- Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya, to operate between 7x and 14x weekly, instead of 14x weekly;
- Maputo, Mozambique, reduced from 4x to 3x weekly;
- Abuja, Nigeria,...
Nepal's Yeti Airlines granted int'l charter rights
28.10.2021 - 11:12 UTCYeti Airlines (YT, Kathmandu) has received an updated and expanded Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), which permits the carrier to operate international charter flights.
Spokesperson Sudarhan Bartaula said that Yeti is planning to operate to India, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and other countries. Once it launches charter flights - which it intends to do "in the near future" - it will then add scheduled international services to its permit terms. The carrier received an international operating licence already in September 2020.
The ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows the airline operates five ATR72-500s with plans to add a further four units of the type. It operates scheduled non-STOL flights out of Kathmandu. Sister carrier Tara Air operates two DHC-6-300s and two DHC-6-400s under Yeti Airlines' code to connect remote destinations with Kathmandu, Nepalgunj, and Pokhara Domestic.
