Virgin Australia Holdings has announced it has revised its existing order with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for forty-eight B737 MAX changing both its composition and delivery dates.

The Australian carrier holding said in a stock market filing that it had changed the makeup of the order from the previous thirty-eight B737-8s and ten B737-10s to twenty-three -8s and twenty-five -10s.

In addition, delivery dates for the first MAX 8s have been delayed from November 2019 to February 2021 while the first MAX 10s have now been brought forward from January 2022 to July 2021.

"The revised timing also results in a number of positive commercial benefits for the Group," Virgin Australia Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Paul Scurrah, said. "This includes a significant deferral of capital expenditure by extending the use of existing aircraft given the relatively young age of our fleet along with providing the Group earlier access to the superior operational economics of the MAX 10 aircraft."

The holdings' mainline carrier, Virgin Australia (VA, Brisbane International), currently operates six A330-200s, eight ATR72-600s, two B737-700s, and sixty-four B737-800s, Virgin Australia International (VA, Brisbane International) operates fifteen B737-800s and five B777-300(ER)s, while its Tigerair Australia (Melbourne Tullamarine) low-cost subsidiary operates ten A320-200s and four B737-800s. Virgin Australia Regional (VA, Perth International) operates five A320-200s and fourteen Fokker 100s.
