SkyWest Airlines (OO, Salt Lake City) has ordered twenty E175s from Embraer which the Utah-based production carrier will operate for American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) under its American Eagle brand under a 10-year contract.

Chip Childs, Skywest's chief executive, said during an earnings call last week that half of the E175s are expected to be placed into service in late 2020 and the other half in 2021. The jets will feature 76 seats in a three-class layout and will be financed via longterm debt.

"Additionally, we expect to take delivery of six E175s which we will own and operate in the first half of 2020 for Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) under our previously-announced agreement," he said. "This year represents the start of the next phase of our fleet transition as we increase the new E175 aircraft in our fleet and prepare the CRJ fleet for the future."

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Skywest operates around 500 aircraft of which 67 (two CRJ200s and sixty-five CRJ700s) fly as American Eagle, 209 (three CRJ-100s, 86 CRJ-200s, eighteen CRJ-700s, forty-three CRJ-900s, and fifty-nine E175s) fly as Delta Connection, 196 (112 CRJ-200s, nineteen CRJ-700s, and sixty-five E175s) fly as United Express, and thirty-two E175s fly as Alaska SkyWest.
