Air Canada (AC, Montréal Trudeau) and United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) have received conditional approval from the Canadian Competition Bureau for a joint venture operation betweeen Canada and the United States allowing the two Star Alliance members to coordinate schedules and pricing and share costs and revenues. The two carriers will however only be allowed to do so on certain markets and will not be permitted to include 14 routes in the joint venture because they would have a joint market share close to a monopoly position. The markets specifically excluded are routes from Calgary to Chicago, Houston and San Francisco, from Montréal Trudeau to Chicago, Houston and Washington D.C., from Ottawa International to New York City and Washington D.C., from Toronto Pearson to Cleveland Hopkins, Denver International, Houston, San Francisco and Washington D.C. and between Vancouver International and San Francisco.
