Tanzania has completed the phase-out of the presidential G550, ch-aviation research reveals.
The 20.6-year-old Gulfstream Aerospace aircraft, was reregistered in the United States as N821SC (msn 5030) on April 12, 2025. It was previously operated by Tanzania's Ministry of Communications and Transport as 5H-ONF. Retired in late 2024, it was ferried between November 28 and December 1 from Dar es Salaam to Savannah International, where it has remained parked since.
Used for presidential travel, the G550 was replaced by a brand-new G700, 5H-ONE (msn 87015), delivered in December 2024 as part of a wider renewal of the country's VIP transport fleet. Currently, Tanzania's VIP fleet also includes a F50 and a F28-3000, the latter stored at Dar es Salaam.
The renewal programme is expected to continue, with an interim payment made to Boeing for a B737-700(BBJ), as outlined in the country's national budget for 2024/2025, following the acquisition of a used DHC-8-Q400 in 2024.
