Renegade Air (RNG, Nairobi Wilson) expects delivery on May 9 of its first ATR42-500 leased from Abelo Capital Aviation, the airline confirmed, with the in-service date and route deployment still to be finalised.
ADS-B data shows that 5Y-RNV (msn 637) was being ferried on May 8 from Mönchengladbach in Germany to Kenya. The 20-year-old turboprop is fitted with Pratt & Whitney PW100 engines and had been stored in Germany since December 2023, according to ch-aviation Commercial Aviation Aircraft Data data.
The 48-seater ATR - Avions de Transport Régional aircraft previously flew with Air Corsica (XK, Ajaccio) under the registration F-HAIB and was reregistered as 2-HAIB in February 2025.
As previously reported, it is expected to boost Renegade Air's turboprop fleet for increased domestic connectivity.
Renegade Air became the first Kenyan airline to resume ATR operations in May 2024 by leasing an ATR72-500(F) from Abelo Capital Aviation, and plans exist for a second ATR freighter. Fitted with a gravel kit, the carrier said the aircraft performed well on routes to Somalia, countering general scepticism among some operators at Nairobi Wilson about the type's suitability for East Africa’s rough runways. Kenya’s market remains dominated by De Havilland Aircraft of Canada aircraft due to the region’s challenging runway conditions and high-altitude airfields.
The airline's diverse fleet also includes one CRJ100ER, two CRJ200LRs, three DHC-8-100s, two DHC-8-300s, with one DHC-8-Q200 due for delivery, four F50s, one F50(F), and one F70, ch-aviation Commercial Aviation Aircraft Data data reveals.
