Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) chief executive Bob Jordan expects Boeing to obtain certification for its B737-7 aircraft type around August 2026. If this takes place, the US carrier aims to start flying the new single-aisle twinjets from the first quarter of 2027.

“Boeing has said kind of mid-next summer. I would guess it will be certified, you know, maybe August of 2026,” Jordan told Reuters on the sidelines of an event held by The Wings Club in New York.

ch-aviation fleet data shows Southwest has firm orders for 249 B737-7s as well as 165 B737-8s. It is the launch customer for the smallest of the B737 MAX family.

Earlier in the year, Boeing chief executive Kelly Ortberg confirmed that the certification of the B737-7 and the B737-10 jets would take place in 2026, without giving a more specific time frame.
