Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) has confirmed that Doha's new international airport Doha Hamad International will be opened for scheduled passenger operations on April 1. The airport has just recently been officially named Hamad International Airport after the country's ruling Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Initially twelve airlines including some low-cost carriers are expected to operate from the new airport while Qatar Airways will continue to operate from the old airport until the interior construction of premium passenger lounges has been completed at the new facility later in 2013. No details are known yet on the carriers that are planning to move from April 1 already.
