Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) has placed a firm order for thirty B787-10s directly from Boeing with a further 30 purchase rights. The deliveries are due to begin in 2031.

The order is Delta's first-ever commitment for the B787. The carrier's widebody fleet comprises eleven A330-200s, thirty-one A330-300s, thirty-nine A330-900Ns, forty A350-900s, thirty-nine B767-300ERs, and twenty-one B767-400ERs. It has further unfilled orders for four more A350-900s and twenty A350-1000s, but, until now, had no orders for any new-generation Boeing widebodies.

The carrier did not disclose whether the B787-10s would replace any particular type, but said the order was aimed at "modernising" its widebody fleet.
