Air Niugini (PX, Port Moresby) plans to debut its newly inducted A220-300s on international routes to Australia in the first quarter of 2026, once regulatory requirements are satisfied, the airline announced in a press release on January 20, 2026.

The carrier plans to initially operate the type on the Port Moresby to Cairns route. Currently, the A220 debut on this route is scheduled for February 2, 2026. This will be followed by a deployment to Sydney Kingsford Smith starting March 29. The introduction of the 138-seat jet on the Sydney route will facilitate a frequency increase from 2x to 3x weekly.

While the aircraft are presently operating domestic services to Lae Nadzab, Rabaul, Kavieng, Manus, and Alotau, the carrier noted that further domestic expansion to Mount Hagen, Wewak, and Hoskins remains contingent on the completion of runway upgrades.

Air Niugini currently operates three A220-300s, having received the first in September 2025 and two subsequent units in December. It is due to receive eight A220-100s. It also operates three B737-800s, two B767-300ER, four DHC-8-300, two DHC-8-Q200, one DHC-8-Q300, four DHC-8-Q400, four F70s, and five F100s.
