The Albany County Legislature has filed a resolution that bans county officials and agencies from using public funds to do business with airlines that participate in “deportation flights.”
“No Albany County personnel or employees will fly on those airlines for any sort of official business,” said legislator Jeffrey Kuhn, the main sponsor of the resolution. He explained that they will not bar airlines from using Albany, NY, as the county does not have the power to do this.
The measure states that no financial resources from the county “may be used to promote, market, or partner with any deportation airlines in any capacity.”
ch-aviation schedules data shows that eight airlines currently operate scheduled flights out of Albany, including Avelo Airlines which, until recently, had a contract with the United States Department of Homeland Security to operate deportation charter flights, and for which it received heavy criticism.
