Ryanair Holdings has signed an agreement with CFM International, a joint venture of General Electric and Safran Aircraft Engines, to take its engine maintenance in-house starting in 2029. The low-cost carrier will acquire spare parts directly from the engine manufacturer for more than USD1 billion per year, hoping to generate substantial savings compared to the current power-by-the-hour maintenance agreement. Ryanair plans to build two in-house engine maintenance facilities in Europe (it reportedly selected Sevilla as the first location) to maintain its fleet of B737-800s powered by CFM56 engines and B737 MAX powered by LEAP-1B engines.
