AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) and Indonesia AirAsia (QZ, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) will suspend all flights to Darwin from April 28, 2026, citing "commercially unsustainable" passenger demand.
ch-aviation schedules data shows AirAsia currently operates a 3x weekly A320-200N service from Kuala Lumpur International, launched in June 2025. Indonesia AirAsia maintains a 3x weekly A320-200 rotation from Denpasar - a route launched three months earlier.
AirAsia X chief commercial officer Amanda Woo said that this capacity will be redeployed to other Australian gateways. Frequencies will be increased on services to Adelaide International, Sydney Kingsford Smith, Melbourne Airport, and Perth International.
In addition, Indonesia AirAsia will inaugurate a new Melbourne-Denpasar route on March 21, 2026.
The group said it remains open to resuming flights to Darwin should market conditions improve.
