The US Department of Transportation has selected eight proposals, spanning a total of 26 US states, for further implementation under the Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) Integration Pilot Program (eIPP).
The selected projects include:
- Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in partnership with Archer Aviation, Beta Technologies, Electra.aero, and Joby Aviation on 12 operational concepts across New England, including Manhattan heliports;
- Texas Department of Transportation with Archer, Beta, Joby, and Wisk for flights connecting Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and eventually Houston, with air taxi networks expanding from each city to extend regional reach;
- Utah Department of Transportation with Ampaire, Bea, Joby, and others to test services across the Pacific Northwest, the Rocky Mountains, and Oklahoma;
- Pennsylvania Department of Transportation with Beta, Electra.aero, and others on projects approximating those currently served under the Essential Air Service programme across 13 states;
- Louisiana with Beta, Elroy Air, and others to test cargo and personnel transportation capabilities for the offshore oil and gas sector;
- Florida Department of Transportation with Archer, Beta, Electra.aero, Joby, and others for statewide cargo, passenger, and medevac deployment;
- North Carolina Department of Transportation with Beta, Joby, and others to focus on piloted medevac and regional operations across the state, with an opportunity to grow autonomous operations into Virginia;
- City of Albuquerque with Reliable Robotics to "achieve early advances in autonomous operations through an existing partnership with an advanced autonomy developer".
